Friday in Los Angeles

Drove down here with friends yesterday, with the express purpose of seeing as many galleries and art museums as possible. After arriving mid-day, we toured the downtown "Gallery Row" area. It's somewhat like SF's Tenderloin/Mission.

has two small gallery areas with orignal art Tshirts, hats, etc. One gallery is photography & video, the other was "Paper Dolls", a delightful group show about female fashion

Mostly small, well crafted, personal works, with understated humor. One of my favorites for the day.

And they're right across the street from Babycakes - a cupcake cafe on cute overload. Seriously, though, these have to be the world's best vegan, gluten-free, no refined sugar chocolate cupcakes. (No really - they're good!)

The other highlight for me was the Bert Green Gallery. http://bgfa.us/
Three good-sized galleries each showing a single artist's work, plus one small space with samples from the gallery's other artists, including my friend - the very talented San Francisco painter, Sandra Yagi. I was most surprised and impressed with the "Commute Series" paintings of Miguel Osuna. He pushes as far as possible into the abstract dimensions of photo reality.

Sorry but no photos with these entries, as I'm blogging from my iPod Touch. Click on the links, though - good images on the gallery sites.
